For some reason, this particular tragedy truly upset me. Among the other dozen of awful things to occur in the past year, this one really did it for me. I feel bad for saying this, because the death of 13 people who just wanted to see a movie, as well as the senseless death of 20 young children, are a disaster… And yet, the bombing of the Boston marathon genuinely disturbed me.
Only someone who wishes to instill pain, fear, and hatred unto the world would rig a celebration to explode. A marathon is supposed to be a positive, cathartic experience, where months of training come into fruition, to be savored by all who participate…but no.. After 4 long hours of running, to finally reach the finish line with family and friends waiting, cheering… A loud explosion occurs, leaving you, and your family dead or injured. I’ll reiterate, the death of innocent children is undeniably tragic, and sad, but to me this is just repulsive. However, I do see all of these events as a whole to be an organized attempt to control America by fear… You can’t go to Manhattan, high school, elementary schools, colleges, movie theaters, mosques, not even a public event without having the possibility of being blown to smithereens. What the ****?
Perhaps it’s because of the philosophy of what a Marathon means to me, or any difficult personal achievement for that matter.. At least one to be celebrated. The idea that someone would choose to ruin something so chaste for everyone, forever. None of those people will probably ever see a public gathering the same way again, and will likely continue their lives, if not dead or cripple, in fear.
Fear is one of the most powerful forces that dictate human influence, second to love. Only fear is much easier to find than love: Love can be found anywhere in a corny fairy tale way, and, in theory, can me ‘made’ anywhere… But fear is literally everywhere all the time, and can be synthesized from anything.. It is only apparent to those who choose to see it. Every single day more and more people are subjected to this stigma, of seeing and fearing death in everything because of these sick pieces of garbage that want to destroy the few things that hold a wholesome Earth together.
At the risk of sounding cornier than conceivably possible, it is only the day that everyone is able to dismiss such fears, and accept the ‘love’ to be had, that these acts of senseless violence will end. Yoda once said “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate, leads to suffering”…. There is no solace in hatred, there is no gain from anger, and one is only robbing himself of the time granted to him when he gives in to fear.
